Anuneeta Chatterjee (she/her)

Anuneeta is a PhD student at the Department of Sociology, University of Calgary. She grew up in India. Her research interests lie at the intersection of youth embodiments in digital spaces, racial capitalism, critical phenomenology, and Southern theory. Her work looks at the role of platform capitalism in the lives of immigrant youth of color.

Her previous degrees include a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Psychology, and English (Triple Major) from Christ University, Bangalore, and a Master of Arts in Social Work from TISS, Mumbai. Her master's thesis was titled, “Socialization of adolescents growing up in the redlight areas of Kolkata”. The work focused on the experiences of the youth growing up in redlight districts as they navigate stigma and engage in place-making.

In YARI, she is engaged in the ReModelling Sustainable Futures project with newcomer youth-of-color in Calgary. The research work centers the sensory-affective politics and embodied experiences of the youth through active mobility. This work includes biking and/ or walking with the youth around the city and then re-modelling pathways and maps of the city to create alternatives that centre their experiences through co-design.

In her free time, she likes to read fiction, collage, and go for long walks.
